Two of southern Vietnam's essentials in one well-paced day from Ho Chi Minh City: crawl the Cu Chi Tunnels and hear the underground war history in the morning, then slow down in the Mekong Delta for a sampan ride, folk music, honey tea, and hand-pulled coconut candy in the afternoon. Itinerary - Full Day (~10-11h)

Stop 1

Morning: Cu Chi Tunnels (08:30-12:00)

Guided walk of the underground network - concealed trapdoors, weapons workshops, underground kitchens/clinics/meeting rooms, tunnel model and maps, and a taste of wartime tapioca. Optional tunnel crawl and self-funded shooting range.

Stop 2

Afternoon: Mekong Delta (13:30-17:30)

Boat to Unicorn Island; sampan through a palm-shaded creek; folk music and tropical fruit; a bicycle stretch; a honeybee farm with honey tea; a buggy/tuk-tuk ride through a coconut village; and a coconut-candy workshop. Motorboat back before returning to HCMC.

Drop-off in central HCMC. Tour ends.

Good questions about this tour

Do I have to crawl through the Cu Chi tunnels? I'm worried about tight spaces.

No - crawling through the widened tunnel section is entirely optional. You can see the tunnel model, the trapdoors, the underground kitchens and workshops, and taste the wartime tapioca without going underground at all.

Is one day enough for both Cu Chi and the Mekong Delta, or will it feel rushed?

It's a long, full day of about 10-11 hours - Cu Chi in the morning, then the Mekong in the afternoon with a sampan ride, honey tea, and coconut candy. It's efficient but not a sprint; if you'd rather go deeper into the delta, our 3-day Mekong tour is the better fit.
