Two UNESCO towns and the coastline between them. Three nights in Hoi An with a full day spent on a bicycle - basket boats, farm work in the herb village, a cooking lesson and a mask-making workshop - then the train over the Hai Van Pass to Hue for the Citadel, the Perfume River and a village of Mandarin descendants.
Itinerary - 6 Days 5 Nights
Day 1
Da Nang arrival → Hoi An
Met at Da Nang International Airport by your guide and transferred straight to the hotel in Hoi An.
Day 2 · B, L
Hoi An by bicycle - basket boats, Tra Que, mask making
Out at 8 AM on bicycles. First Cam Thanh, where a round basket boat is rowed through the water coconut palms and local fishermen show you how they cast their nets - and let you try. Then through rice fields, with the cultivation cycle explained as you ride, to Tra Que herb village: laying seaweed as fertiliser, digging beds, transplanting and watering alongside the farmers. A herbal footbath, then into the kitchen to make banh xeo before eating it. In the afternoon, a mask-making workshop - how colour signals a character's background and line thickness signals age - then paint your own and cycle back.
Day 3 · B
Hoi An free day
The whole day yours. Cafes, tailors, the old town's narrow yellow streets under the lanterns. The Reaching Out Teahouse, staffed by hard-of-hearing artisans, is the suggestion worth taking.
Day 4 · B
Hoi An → Da Nang → scenic train to Hue
A slow morning, then collected around 12:30 PM for Da Nang station. The train runs along the coast and over the Hai Van Pass with villages and rice paddies below. Check in at Hue with the rest of the day free.
Day 5 · B, L
Hue - heritage, people, nature
Out at 8:30 AM. The Hue Citadel first, for the imperial history and the Mandarin system. Thien Mu Pagoda, built in the early 1600s, its seven storeys the symbol of the city. Then a small boat across the Perfume River to Thuy Bieu village - narrow alleys, old houses in tropical gardens, and lunch in a local home with descendants of the Mandarins. Tu Duc's tomb on the way back, with a short climb to a viewpoint over the river.
Day 6 · B
Hue departure
Transfer to the airport.
