A private six days through the south at an unhurried pace: two full days in Saigon with a guided walk through its landmarks and its backpacker quarter, a day out at the Cu Chi tunnels, then down into the delta for a night in Can Tho and the Cai Rang floating market at dawn.
Itinerary - 6 Days 5 Nights
Day 1
Welcome to Ho Chi Minh City
Met at the international airport and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours - museums, street food, or just the streets and their colonial architecture.
Day 2 · B
Exploring Saigon
A guided day with an English-speaking local guide. The Reunification Palace first, including the War Room and the room where the North Vietnamese formally took control in 1975. Then Notre-Dame Cathedral and the French-colonial Central Post Office, and the noise of Ben Thanh Market. The day finishes in Pho Tay, the "Streets of Foreigners", where backpackers gather - noodle soups, savoury pancakes and a drink at a corner cafe.
Day 3 · B
Cu Chi Tunnels
Out of the city to Cu Chi, stopping at a family rice-paper workshop on the way. An introductory film, then the tunnel network itself: mantraps, the wreck of an American tank, bomb craters. A war-era shooting range is there for anyone who wants it. Back to Saigon.
Day 4 · B, L
Mekong Delta → Can Tho
An early start south. A traditional sampan through the waterways, local cottage industries - brick-making, rice paper - and the antiques at Mr Sau Khanh's house, from old ceramics to sculpture. On to Can Tho for the night.
Day 5 · B, L
Cai Rang & the Mekong canals → Saigon
A small boat through Can Tho's narrow canals and into the Cai Rang floating market, thick with vendor boats. Time watching the canal life go by, then the drive back to Ho Chi Minh City.
Day 6 · B
Departure
Touring arrangements end. Make your own way to the airport, or pre-book a departure transfer.
