Five days built around the two things people come to southern Vietnam for: the city and the delta. It opens with a street food walk through Saigon's alleys on the first evening, spends a full day on the war history from the Reunification Palace to the Cu Chi tunnels, then heads down to My Tho, Ben Tre and Can Tho for the floating market at dawn.
Itinerary - 5 Days 4 Nights
Day 1 · D
Arrive Saigon | Street food tour
Airport pick-up and hotel check-in from 2 PM, afternoon free. At 6 PM, a guided walk through Saigon's alleys and side streets in search of the food most visitors never find, with the customs and traditions behind each dish. Ends around 8:30 PM.
Day 2 · B, L
Saigon city | Cu Chi Tunnels
Morning at the Reunification Palace, built on the site of the old Norodom Palace, then the French-colonial landmarks - Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Central Post Office - and the War Remnants Museum. After lunch, an hour and a half out to Cu Chi: an introductory film, then the tunnel network with its living quarters, weapons workshops, field hospitals and hidden trap doors. Tea and steamed cassava, the guerrillas' wartime food, to finish.
Day 3 · B, L
Saigon → My Tho → Ben Tre → Can Tho
The 19th-century Vinh Trang pagoda, then a sampan around the four islands - Dragon, Unicorn, Phoenix and Tortoise. Ashore on Unicorn Island for orchard paths, tropical fruit and southern folk music, then the Thoi Son canal, a family bee farm with honey tea, and a coconut-candy workshop. Afternoon cycling around Tan Thach village, or a hammock if you would rather. On to Can Tho for the night.
Day 4 · B, L
Cai Rang Floating Market → Saigon
Early boat onto the Bassac River tributaries and into Cai Rang, the liveliest floating market in the delta. Then a walk to a fruit plantation and a local noodle factory, the Binh Thuy communal house, and the Khmer Munir Ansay Pagoda. Lunch, then back to Ho Chi Minh City.
Day 5 · B
Departure
Free time until your transfer to Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
